Maya history
Maya people built towns and cities across areas that are now in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. They did not live under one single empire.
Writing, numbers and cities
Maya writers recorded rulers, events, beliefs and dates. Their number system used place value and a sign for zero. Their calendars tracked more than one cycle of time. Cities such as Palenque, Tikal and Calakmul each had their own story.
What changed
Some large cities in the southern lowlands lost power near the end of the Classic period. The reasons were not the same everywhere. War, changes in weather, politics and people moving all played a part.
Maya life did not simply disappear. Maya people, languages and communities are still here today.
What the game invents
Blood of the Jaguar brings places and times together for one adventure. Its hero, talks and court plot are made for the game. Its Hero Twins story is based on the K'iche' Popol Vuh, but it does not speak for every Maya group.
