A real place in the story
Palenque
Palenque is an ancient Maya city in Chiapas, Mexico. Its buildings, art and long carved texts help us learn about Maya royal life.
Buildings and written history
The Palace and the Temple of the Inscriptions are two famous parts of the city. Their carved words helped experts build a list of Palenque's rulers. The tomb of King K'inich Janaab' Pakal was found inside the Temple of the Inscriptions.
What the evidence cannot tell us
Rulers paid for many of the city's monuments. The texts give us names, dates and royal claims. They do not tell us what every person thought or give a fair account of every event. New finds can still change what we know.
What the game invents
The court in Blood of the Jaguar uses a real place and a real writing culture. The player's job, talks and puzzle events are made for the game.
