Learn by trying
Cipher Academy
The Academy has 40 lessons. Each lesson explains one idea, shows a short example and lets you try it yourself.
Start with four famous ciphers
- Caesar cipher: move every letter by the same number of places.
- Vigenère cipher: use a keyword to change the move for each letter.
- Substitution cipher: swap each letter for another letter.
- Rail fence cipher: move letters by writing them in a zigzag.
Learn more than codes
You can also learn how to check clues, notice details, follow routes, read signals and understand other puzzle types. These old ciphers are fun to learn, but they are not safe for modern private messages.
Use your new skills
Learning the method does not solve the game for you. Cipher Crack still starts with a real challenge. It can use Caesar, substitution, Vigenère, rail fence, codes with extra symbols, and messages hidden inside other things.
